Though Will Shick of Atomic Mass Games was very clear in that this was “NOT” a new edition – all the fact completely contradict him – this is without a doubt a complete sweeping overall of the entire game of Star Wars Legion. New Art, New Rules, Revamped Units, New Mechanics, Scoring, Points, List-building and even a new logo. Atomic Mass Games has worked very hard to purge everything the received from FFG and it looks like this is one way to do that, yet still keep Legion and making in their own new game.
Most cards in the game have already been reworked into a new art style, among those almost all of them have seen changes. The few units that haven’t been re-designed or rebalanced yet are planned to have their new 2.0 versions released within a year.
The game is now 1000 points, is only 5 turns long, (though your first turn you move from off the board to on to it, so it’s more like 4 1/2 turns) and you play until the end of turn 5 or until someone has 12 victory points. The Battle Cards are completely new, there is a new 1/2 range tool that is 3 inches and 2 inch objectives tokens (You have to print them out on paper for now).
With tons of major rules updates, including a new “Backup” system and a completely new Cover system, double sized corps units, detachment rules allowing up to 6 special forces of some types, and big changes to vehicles, this new edition is almost a new game entirely. If nothing else, it’s going to strongly encourage Star Wars Legion players to find new reasons to buy LOTS of new hard-plastic expansions of units they already have, (or “had”) the maximum number of. They want people running 112 B-1 Battle droids now it seems!
Here’s my breakdown!
